Naga Kandiah Represents Nigerian Man After Long Immigration Limbo and Deportation Appeal

The Guardian reports that Anthony Olubunmi George, a 63-year-old Nigerian man who has lived in the UK since 1986, has won his appeal against deportation and been granted the right to remain. He has no criminal convictions and has never returned to Nigeria.
The immigration tribunal recognised the impact of his poor previous legal representation, his health problems and his long-term circumstances in the UK. The judge also noted that George had avoided seeing his GP because of fears about his immigration status, before suffering the two cardiovascular attacks
George’s current solicitor, Naga Kandiah of MTC Solicitors, said:
“My client has been living in limbo for almost 40 years, has suffered two strokes and has no family left in Nigeria.”
Kandiah also said George’s situation was caused not only by Home Office policies but by “poor representation by previous solicitors who failed to uphold professional integrity and ethical standards.” He said he was “overjoyed” by the tribunal’s decision after George had waited almost four decades for resolution.
